Interesting points, however, Keith Richards is the greatest rhythm guitar player in history and its his work with Watts and whoever on bass that makes the Stones rhythm section arguably the best ever. Garcia wanted Weir out because he has never learned to play rhythm guitar correctly. Speaking as a guitar player for 30 years with some degree of success, Weir has always been at best an unusual player. I'm not saying he sucks but he wasn't what Jerry wanted/needed. Imagine someone of Richard's skills playing with Phil and the drummers....now thats a rhythm section I'd pay to hear.

Will you provide reference to your statement?

Sure, Garcia wanted Weir and Pig Pen out very early on late 60s I think. As a matter of fact, the story goes that he fired them both but they just sort of stayed. Its in most books about the Dead.
